Vietnam ’15

Last Summer of ’15 me and my friends planned a spontaneous trip to feed our wanderlust. We were trying to find a cheap and affordable places to spend our hard earned salary. One Lucky night I saw Cebu Pacific having a promo offering affordable prices to various countries and Vietnam was one of them. I checked the prices and quickly informed my friends. We booked the flight and planned our trip!

viet1viet8This is my first ever out of the country trip with just my friends. It was surreal that we’re the one in charge to find the hotels and places to go. We were independent and it was awesome. We booked a place within the heart of Ho Chi Mihn. We stayed at Vietnam Inn Saigon, it’s a small hostel with very helpful staff that speaks good english!

viet2viet4I have to be honest, This place looks like manila. A place where I’ve grown up and lived for about 23 years. It was weird walking down the street recognizing how similar it looks to me, I kept reminding myself that I was in Saigon and not in Mabini or España. it’s like i’m in a whole new manila where I can’t understand the street signs and store fronts. But never the less Ho Chi Minh gave us a new places to explore. There was the cathedral, the opera house and more.

tumblr_nps8x4aau51qjzl4eo1_1280viet3We have also visited the Cu Chi Tunnels where we’ve learned how Vietnam survived the war. We’ve also tried going into the tunnels and may i just share that the tunnel goes smaller and smaller by time and you wouldn’t want to fart while you’re in there. The travel guide was a witty funny guy that made the tour more enjoyable.

viet5viet7viet6Mekong Delta was also part of our Itinerary. We ate fresh fruits and lots of coconut products, We drank honey tea and I even got to stay real close to a beehive and stuck my finger in it to taste the honey. We rode along the waters of mekong and wore the hats that we oh so wanted to wear, cause when in Vietnam at some point you gotta wear the straw hat! After doing activities we were settled down to eat while the locals preformed a traditional dance. It was a good tour, We got to talk to other travelers and relax at the end of it. There were various activities you could do after eating. You can ride bikes, sleep on the hammocks, watch crocodiles sleep, play foosball ( we chose this) or just chill in the big huts. This was our last day and it was well spent. also the total of the tour was just $8 and it was a great deal.

There are also other things that stuck to me from Saigon:

  • Their Iced Coffee is always bomb and cheap and its the best.
  • Their cheap and affordable quirky shops that are weird and made me question myself if I’d like to have a quirky weird thing in my room.
  • Their scary streets where chaos in manila is nothing to their’s, I mean it was really hard to cross the streets.
  • How some locals still wear their straw hats in the modern world we live today.
  • How Cheap Saigon Square is. The ultimate store for branded material.
  • How pho was so yummy I couldn’t get enough but I must say the ones on the street tasted better than the one in expensive cafes.
  • Vietnam was the only country where I became a millionaire.

In conclusion. I’ve enjoyed my stay and would like to explore other places in Vietnam like Hanoi. I would recommend people to travel here to explore places and shop! I would also suggest not to travel at summer april, may, june. Because the scorching sun is way too much and the air is way too humid. I swear showering my ass off is one of the things I did here.

  • Old town warsaw. Beautiful and peaceful houses that gives off a romantic homey vibe. I didnt expect a lot of warsaw. It was not one of the cities that gave off a “you must go here when you are in europe” vibe. But it’s actually pretty nice and cheap. It’s also less crowded that other places.
